Critical Surface Contamination Training for Cabin Crew

Course Description:

Contamination caused by snow, ice or frost on critical aircraft surfaces can have a detrimental effect on aircraft performance. International aviation regulations prohibit the take-off of aircraft when contamination is adhering to aircraft critical surfaces. This forms the basis of the “Clean Aircraft Concept.” To this end, procedures have been developed by the global industry to ensure that aircraft are de/anti-iced on the ground prior to departure.

The Pilot-in-Command has ultimate responsibility for the safe operation of the aircraft in all conditions, including during winter operations. That said, flight crews, cabins crews, ground crews and maintenance personnel must work as a team to ensure that aircraft are clean of all contamination and that operations remain in compliance with the Clean Aircraft Concept.

Cabin Crew personnel play an important role in the safety of winter operations. The Critical Surface Contamination Training Course is focused entirely on Cabin Crew responsibilities and provides visual training on basic de/anti-icing procedures and surface contamination recognition from the Cabin Crew's vantage point.
